Introduction to Advertising

Conventions- Things that make up a genre, e.g. Crime might include guns
Layout and designs- How things are placed on a page.
Mise-en-scene- Everything you can see in a shot including the character.
Advert- to sell a lifestyle.

Key Theory 1- Roland Barthes- Semiotics:
Semiotics is the study of meaning.
The three aspects are- sign, signifiers, signified.
Sign: Anything that can have a meaning
Signifiers:things that create meanings
signified: the meaning that is created
