Genre and Intertexuality

Genre is a type of Media Product.

Generic Fluidity - the way in which genres change over time

Genre isn't that helpful as it can be generalised like rap as more than one type. Sub-Genre are helpful as it can more specific. Hybrid genre is a mix of two genres.

Genre is made up of generic paradigms, also known as genre conventions are accepts of media text (e.g editing, mise-en-scene, sound, etc) that demonstrate to the audience what genre a media product is.

Iconography - the familiar signs of genre

Key theory 3- Steve Neale - Theories around Genre:

Genre provides information for the audience, shortcut for producers to make film. To encode their own ideology. Helps to categorise things for society, so we can pin point things. Understand the world around, we can help identify stuff.
